Profile

Aris Gionis is a research scientist in Yahoo! Research, Barcelona. He received his Ph.D from the Computer Science department of Stanford University in 2003, and between 2003 and 2006 he has been a senior researcher at the Basic Research Unit of Helsinki Institute of Information Technology, Finland. His research interests include data mining, web mining, and algorithmic data analysis.

Aris is currently serving as an associate editor in the journal of Knowledge and Information Systems (KAIS).
Other recent professional activities include being an Area Chair for ECML/PKDD 08, Vice Chair for ICDM 08 and a PC member for SDM 08, PAKDD 08, WWW 08, KDD 08, AAAI 08, ICML 08, ICDE 09, and WSDM 09.

  • Yahoo! Labs Showcases Scientific Excellence in 2009 - 2009 was a stellar year at Yahoo! Labs as it won seven best paper awards at these top conferences in the industry.
  • Yahoo! Wins Best Paper at CIKM 2009 - Yahoo! Labs outperformed its previous year’s presence, taking the awards for best paper, best student paper, and runner-up student paper out of a record 30 accepted papers.
  • Yahoo! at CIKM 2008 - CIKM featured twenty-four Yahoos on the program committee, two invited Yahoo! speakers and one tutorial given by Yahoo! Research.
