Profile
Cameron Jones joined the Internet Experience group at Yahoo! Research in February, 2008. Prior to being at Yahoo! Cameron was a Ph.D. student in the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Cameron’s research interests are in how the web is changing the processes of information and information technology production by making people and information increasingly more connected, searchable, and findable. Within this broad conceptual area, Cameron is interested in the innovative uses of technology by end-users, the appropriation of existing technology towards the construction of new artifacts, and the creative combination and remixing of software and services (e.g., web mashups).
He has published articles on information technology design and design pedagogy, human-computer interaction and interface personalization, ad-hoc collaborative prototyping methods with open-source software, web mashup development practices, and technological appropriation. Additionally, Cameron has studied human uses and evaluation metrics of music information retrieval systems.
At Yahoo! Cameron is continuing his research on the social and collaborative practices of web-enabled software development. Together with Elizabeth Churchill, he is initiating research projects aimed at understanding the breadth of developer and development practices among members of the Yahoo! Developer Network, as well as users of development platforms like Yahoo! Pipes. He is also investigating source-code repository search behavior and developing new information retrieval systems to better support source-code search.
