Keynote, Best Paper Award Among List of Distinctions at ICDE 2007
Yahoo! Research made a presence at the 2007 IEEE 23rd International Conference on Data Engineering (ICDE 2007), held April 15 – 20 in Istanbul, Turkey. Research Director Ricardo Baeza-Yates addressed a keynote while Research Scientist Philip Bohannon won Best Paper Award. Yahoo! Research had a total of five refereed papers, all extremely well-received.
Ricardo’s talk, entitled “Challenges in Distributed Web Retrieval,” focused on the challenges of a real distributed search engine and drew a crowd of nearly 300. He also discussed new results on index partitioning, caching and load balancing. Philip’s paper, “Conditional Functional Dependencies for Data Cleaning,” was co-authored with four colleagues from the University of Edinburgh and Bell Labs: Wenfei Fan, Floris Geerts, Xibei Jia and Anastasios Kementsietsidis.
ICDE is the premier forum for presentation of research results and advanced data-intensive applications and discussion of issues on data and knowledge engineering. The mission of the conference is to share research solutions to problems of today’s information society and to identify new issues and directions for future research and development work.
