Big Thinkers India Series Features Andrew Tomkins

Andrew Tomkins, Vice President of Search Research at Yahoo! Research shared his insights and experience on Web Search and Online Communities as part of the Big Thinkers India Series in Bangalore. Organized by Yahoo! India Research & Development, the event was held at The Ballroom, Taj West End, on April 5, 2007.

Andrew covered some recent trends in Web search, and discussed some key future directions for Yahoo! He also touched on the dynamics of online community formation, in various venues. Finally, he connected these two areas with a discussion of the challenges of incorporating and ranking user-generated content alongside traditional algorithmic search results.

The event drew a crowd of over 410 and attracted people from companies such as Microsoft Research, Google, Oracle, AOL, Amazon, IBM, HP, Thomson Corporation, Mindtree Consulting, Dell, Thoughtworks, Texas Instruments, Perot Systems, Rediff. There were students and professors from IISc, IIT-Madras, UVCE and IIIT-Hyderabad.
