Title: "Network Security in the Smart Mobile Ecosystem"   Gokce Gorbil ABSTRACT            The growing popularity of smart mobile devices has made them an attractive target for cyber-criminals, resulting in a rapidly growing and evolving mobile threat as attackers experiment with new business models. With the emergence of the first large-scale mobile botnets, the core network has also become vulnerable to distributed denial-of-service attacks such as the signaling attack. In this talk, we will present a security approach that integrates different technologies such as device virtualization and anomaly detection in order to improve mobile network security through a better understanding of the threat landscape. We will then review the characteristics of signaling attacks and present analytical and simulation results on their effect on the network and mobile users. Our results provide insight into how such attacks can be detected and mitigated.   BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE Dr. Gokce Gorbil is a post-doctoral fellow at the Intelligent Systems and Networks group at Imperial College London. He is currently working on mobile networks and security, emergency communication and management systems, and autonomous systems for cloud management.
