Evgeniy Gabrilovich, senior research scientist and manager of the NLP & IR Group at Yahoo Labs was honored last week by the British Computer Society Information Retrieval Specialist Group (BCS IRSG) with the prestigious Karen Spärck Jones Award. The award was created to commemorate the achievements of Karen Spärck Jones, Professor Emerita of Computers and Information at the University of Cambridge, for her contributions to the fields of Information Retrieval and Natural Language Processing. The award recognizes and awards talented researchers who have endeavored to advance our understanding of the field with significant experimental contributions. Gabrilovich joined Yahoo Labs in 2007 after completing his Ph.D. in Computer Science at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology. He has co-authored over 30 publications in top international conferences and journals, and filed over 20 patents. He has also served on the program committees of virtually every major conference in the field (including WWW, WSDM, SIGIR, CIKM, AAAI, ACL, EMNLP, HLT, COLING, JCDL), as well as reviewed papers for ACM TOIS, ACM TOIT, ACM TWEB, IEEE TKDE, Information Processing and Management Journal, Journal of Natural Language Engineering (JNLE), and Communications of the ACM.
