Yahoo Labs is working hard to develop world-class science that will unveil the next generation of the Internet, and through our Key Scientific Challenges (KSC) Program students are given a chance to get an inside look at the big challenges Yahoo research scientists are working on while driving their research forward. This program helps PhD students learn more about the real-world problems facing our industry, and then asks them to focus on and solve these fundamental challenges alongside the top minds in the field.

In 2010, two PhD students from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst (UMass), Sameer Singh and Michael Wick, won the Key Scientific Challenges (KSC) award for their research proposals. The prior year, Gregory Druck, also from UMass, was a KSC winner. Their university recently put together the following video about their students' work and their experiences with Yahoo and the KSC program. You can also read more about them in the UMass article.
