Yahoo Labs had a prominent presence at the 2009 ACM International Conference on Multimedia held on October 19 -23, 2009 in Beijing, China. A new and exciting part of the program was the addition of the Multimedia Grand Challenge hosted by David Ayman Shamma of Yahoo Research. Companies submitted important industry problems (Yahoo contributed two problems) and academic groups applied their research to the problems. In an “American Idol” style event, the responses to challenges were presented. The winner for the Multimedia Grand Challenge was “VoxaleadNews: Robust Automatic Segmentation of Video into Browsable Content” from the team of Julien Law-To, Gregory Grefenstette, Jean-Luc Garvain in response to a Yahoo-contributed problem. Kausal Kurapati, a Yahoo search product manager, served as a judge for the challenge. List of Yahoo Accepted Papers
