Invited tutorial on grammatical error correction presented at the COLING conference in Dublin, August 24, 2014 by Joel Tetreault (Yahoo Labs) and Claudia Leacock (CTB McGraw Hill). The presentation provides a history of the field of NLP as applied to grammatical error correction, a description of issues language learners face when learning English, an overview of the leading methods in the field, along with 3 case studies, and issues with annotation and evaluation. The presentation concludes with a vision for a future for the field as well as ideas which can have a great impact in the short term.
