User Modeling and Personalization

We investigate new ways of understanding users based on their daily interactions with our unmatched set of products, including some of the web's most popular news services, finance and sports applications, and one of the largest email services in the world. We embed this huge set of observations in theories about human perception and social lives to model users’ multiple identities and changing interests. Personalization is the science of developing user models to anticipate the interaction each user will have with a product. We look for ways in which personalization can be used within real-time experiences on mobile devices with rich context. Key problems in this area include contextual profiling, context-based intent prediction, personalized recommendations, and real-time federated search.
