At Yahoo!, PPSN (as he is called), leads the efforts for Systems Research in the areas of distributed systems, security, networking, virtualization, and information management. He is also the product leader at Yahoo! for key cloud services that power almost all Yahoo! websites. The services include structured storage, user data, user profiles, pub-sub messaging, elastic compute, and tier management. He has over 15 years of experience innovating and building large-scale systems including parallel, main-memory, xml, and nosql databases.
Prior to Yahoo!, PPSN was at Bell Labs Research for 10 years in various roles. His passion for building high-throughput real-time systems led him to join the DataBlitz Main-memory DB team at Bell Labs, where he designed features like replication, XML mapping, and cache-aware query processing. As a team leader, he led network management, network discovery, and video-streaming quality research. Moving to a more entrepreneurial role at Bell Labs Ventures, PPSN led the engineering efforts of a location-based geo-fencing venture. In the role, he built differentiated algorithms and techniques to enable scalable and efficient push LBS.
PPSN holds a Bachelor’s in Computer Engineering from the University of Mumbai, and Master’s in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Bombay where he graduated at the top of his class. PPSN has co-authored multiple publications in prestigious database conferences, as well as holds patents and patent-applications in the areas of databases, network management, distributed systems, and geo-fencing. He has also received numerous awards for excellence in innovations and teamwork at Bell Labs and Yahoo!
